The Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) is one of the methods of Non-Destructive Test. DPI or sometimes called liquid penetrant inspection is used to locate surface cracks, defects and the porosity of the material. It is easy to perform and easy to clean up, causing minimal disruption to ongoing fabrication, but also only detects defects on the surface of the material. The test surface gets covered in a film of the penetrant liquid to create a capillary action which will penetrate any defects in the material A developer is then added on the surface to draw out the invisible defects and make them visible.
